April Book Review
Happy Book Review Day!!! This is my favorite day of the month because I get to share with you ALL of the amazing things I have been reading.
I get so many questions about why I like to read fiction. I have my own thoughts and responses, but I saw this in a book I read this month and LOVED IT! It is a conversation between the two main characters, and I thought her response was perfect. I took a picture of it knowing that I had to keep it forever and share it with you. It is the exact response I would use if I was a famous and talented author! Ha!
This month, with a long, holiday weekend and a date trip added into the mix, I read FIVE books.
*One I stumbled upon in a rush during a flight delay and am still questioning my rationale on that one.
*One I have already loaned to my mother-in-law because she loves a good thriller.
*One I spent two days laughing out loud and disturbing Reid by the pool on our trip. Such a fun read!
*Two have been added to my favorite series list. (Insert heart eyes here!)
HERE WE GO . . .
Mile High by Liz Tomforde
The Right Move by Liz Tomforde
A few people have recommended this series to me, and while everyone has been in love with it, I keep hearing how long it is. That has deterred me from picking either book up, and I am sad to say that I didn’t ignore that info earlier. I LOVED this series!
Mile High follows Stevie and The Right Move follows her twin brother, Ryan. Both books are filled with the same characters, which always makes it fun for me as a reader!
Stevie is a flight attendant for Chicago’s professional hockey team. She is figuring out her life and living with her NBA star twin brother while she gets back on her feet. Zanders, a hockey player, and Stevie immediately hit it off in a friends/enemies situation, and you can guess where they end up. Super cute, funny, loving, enjoyable . . . all the things . . . and rated R.
Ryan, the NBA star, plays for Chicago’s professional basketball team. Due some hard past experiences, he withdraws from everyone except for his twin sister. That is until her best friend, a fellow flight attendant, needs a place to stay for a bit. Indy has just ended a years long relationship, and was left with nothing. The roommate situation turns fake dating situation turns into a rated R Hallmark movie.
Loved both of these books. Truly. If I HAD to pick a favorite, I’d probably go with The Right Move, but so glad I read them in order. LOVE!!! Read!!!
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth
I love a good thriller! One that keeps you entertained, makes you question everything after a few chapters, and doesn’t give me anxiety. Sally Hepworth never disappoints in this department!
Gabe and Pippa move to a beautiful village on the Austrialian coast hoping to leave a peaceful life with their two daughters. Shortly after they move into their cliffside home, they learn of “The Drop” – a place where people famously come to jump and end their lives. Over the last year, Gabe has saved all seven that have shown up depressed and not seeing a way out. Having become quite the local hero, it is a shock to everyone when the most recent visitor to The Drop jumped and was unable to be saved. What is even more shocking is that Gabe knew the victim and had a bit of history with her and her family.
Y’all. This one is a wild ride. I read this on my trip with Reid and would update him every few chapters because he was just as into it as I was. Suspenseful and fun, with a host of loving and crazy characters! Highly recommend if you are a thriller-loving reader!
Vacation Wars by Meghan Quinn
I enjoy Meghan Quinn books. They are usually a fun, easy read with some steaminess. Her newest book came out while Reid and I were in Cabo, and it was the perfect book to read by the pool while enjoying a cocktail or two. Or three.
Tessa and her family have been spending most of every summer at the same resort on a beach in Greece since she was six-years-old. The perfect time to visit with her Greek father’s family and keep his heritage alive. Myles, the son of the resort’s owner, has either worked or just been a part of daily life at the resort since he was six. Over the years, their paths crossed. Some years they ignored each other, other years they managed to share a few words. But, since their teenage years, a crush has been alive and well on each side.
Now, at 30-years-old, Tessa, her sister, and their two best friends, are spending three weeks at the resort leading up to her sister’s wedding. Myles has been absent for the last seven years each time they travel to Greece, so she is shocked when he is back, grown up, and actually communicates with her.
The entire story is based upon a silly contract the four girls entered into when they were in high school . . . it’s brought along on the trip, and three of the girls gang up on Tessa to get her to comply with one portion of the contract. Tessa is annoyed, seeks out the help of Myles, and “vacation wars” ensue. Y’all! There was some definite borderline bullying amongst friends in this book, and some general overall silliness, but I laughed out loud MULTIPLE times and just loved this book!
Now, if you have gone down the Meghan Quinn book rabbit hole like I have, please know that this one is benign in the Rated R department compared to her others. Yes, there was definitely some steaminess, but with a sweet pretense of two characters that have cared about each other for years and are taking it slow. I loved this one! Such a great read for a fun trip, staycation, or weekend on your sofa!
Right Man, Right Time by Meghan Quinn
Don’t judge me, y’all. We were sitting on the airplane about to take off to come home, and I knew that I was going to be finishing the amazing Vacation Wars sometime in flight. SO, right before we backed away from the internet, I quickly downloaded this book as it was the first recommended option on my Kindle app. Did I read this book extremely quickly? Yes. Did it have characters from other books that I loved and enjoyed getting caught up with? Yes.
Quick recap: Ollie and Silas fake date for their own reasons, true love shines through. Basics.
Here are my issues . . .
1. She is a 21-year-old college student, and he is a 31-year-old NHL player. While the age difference was discussed quite a bit, I just couldn’t get over it. Too much for me.
2. There is a piercing in the book that is mentioned a few times . . . I have never heard of it before, I kind of know what it is due to mild descriptions, but I refuse to google to see if I am correct. I DO NOT need that on my search history. No, thank you.
3. This one was a “skimmer”. Lots of details or info that I didn’t care too much about, which is probably why I read it so quickly.
4. This one was so rated R, but not in a delightful way. It was a steaminess with a side of “WHAT is happening?” At one point I thought that if a man was aggressively pursuing a woman the way Ollie was pursuing Silas, he would be arrested. No bueno! WOWZA!
Definitely a quick beach read . . . just fair warning of what you are getting into!
*******
That is it for this month! Lots to discuss! As usual, let me know what your thoughts are on the books above. AND . . . as always, send me your recommendations! I am out of town a couple of times in May, so definitely needing some options! Have a great weekend! XO
