December Book Review

It’s BOOK REVIEW DAY! Woohoo!

So, today will be short and sweet. As of today, December 22nd, I have only read two books this month.

Not my usual amount, but let’s be honest . . . this has been me for the last few weeks . . .

BUT . . . just after the New Year, I will be posting the 2020 Books in Review which is always SO MUCH FUN! If you are new to the blog, this is when I give you my top books of the year! The best of the best! Can’t wait to share that with you!

Here we go . . .

The Traveler’s Gift by Andy Andrews

I am not a big self-help book kind of girl. I have reviewed a couple of great ones on the blog, but it is not a genre that I typically find myself diving into. If I take the time to read, I want to escape, not depress myself about how much work I need to do on myself.

BUT . . . this book came to me HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Like, the person told me that this book had changed her life. Clearly, I downloaded immediately, and this became the entertainment every time I was in the car.

The Traveler’s Gift is about a man that loses his job and is unable to financially care for his family. After months of setbacks, he is in a horrible car accident that then takes him through several visitors and life lessons. While visiting each historic figure, these are the seven decisions that he learns determine personal success:

  1. The Buck Stops Here
  2. Seek Wisdom
  3. Become a Person of Action
  4. Have a Decided Heart
  5. Choose to be Happy
  6. Greet This Day with a Forgiving Spirit
  7. Persist Without Exception

Let me say this. I enjoyed this book. It was insightful. It was a mix between It’s A Wonderful Life and Scrooged. It was also a recap of the therapy and work I have done on myself throughout the heartbreak of losing Sophie and other miscarriages over the last several years. It is always great to have truth spoken into you, so if you need a little pep in your step this holiday season, I would suggest reading (or listening to) this book.

The Tourist Attraction by Sarah Morgenthaler

Oh, this book. Friends . . . after the inspirational self-help book, mama needed a little chick lit to sink into and escape from all of the work I need to do on myself!

The Tourist Attraction is the FIRST in a series, and you know how much I love a great series! This book is based in Moose Springs, Alaska. A cozy little town with a hilarious mix of established locals and seasonal tourists.

Graham owns the Tourist Trap, a local dive that attracts people from all over the county. Zoey is a tourist that saved all of her money to experience Alaska for two weeks.

This book is precious. PRECIOUS! Easy read that makes you smile. It does have a couple of scenes that weigh heavily into the PG-13 rating, but nothing that would make you blush too hard if someone was reading over your shoulder. I finished this in carpool one day, and had loaned it out to a friend less than an hour later. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, which I plan to start sometime this week!

I highly recommend this cuteness for your Christmas Break reading OR a last minute stocking stuffer!
