Friday Favorites: SMU vs. TCU
Happy Friday! It is almost the weekend!!
Before I get started today, I have to just mention that my heart is with those that are struggling with a loss from September 11th. 19 years ago today. Crazy it has been that long, and I will never forget where I was. Also, so thankful to all of the first responders that run in when we run out. #neverforget
If you know me, then you know that I have been counting down the days until football season starts! Football season is BIG in the Beucler House. HUGE! There were MULTIPLE Fantasty Football drafts that took place earlier this week. Jackson has three to himself! Oh dear.
Well, tonight was going to be the first football game that we were going to go to. The annual SMU vs. TCU game. BUT . . . several guys on the TCU team came down with Covid-19, and the game has been postponed.
Two things here:
- I am SO BUMMED for these kids. They have been working so hard, and I know that quarantining and postponing games is the last thing they want to do.
- I fully believe that since TCU had to postpone this game, it basically means they forfeited. Which means SMU wins. WOOHOO! Two years in a row, baby! Please note that this is not the popular opinion in my house. It is the correct opinion, just not popular. π
Since my Friday Favorites post was going to be dedicated to the big game tonight, I am going to just share our obsession with these two schools. And a ton of pictures! Definitely a favorite in the Beucler house!
I went to SMU, and I had the best experience. Loved it! I love football as well, and after the NCAA Death Penalty in the 1980s, SMU was not great. At all! But, we live in Dallas, and still go to games when we can. Check out some of my favorite people here in this pic for Homecoming one year. *Insert heart eye emojis!!
Now, Reid went to TCU, and played baseball. TCU is great at almost all of their sports, which makes it easier to cheer for them over the years. I get it.
Of course, when SMU plays TCU each Fall, there is MAJOR trash talking. Major. Since 1915, the “Iron Skillet” game has been played almost every year. TCU is currently in the lead with winning 51 of those 99 games. And, in the last ten years, SMU has only won 2. We ARE getting better, but it has been a rough go.
Still, I feel like it is important to support your team. Which is why I talk trash every year SMU plays TCU. Ha!
WAY back in 2010, my only child at the time was super loyal to his mother!
And, then in 2012, the loyalty was still going strong!
And, then Reid had an idea that every year we should each pick one boy to dress in our school’s gear. Great idea, right? I wanted to be fair, but looking back, this was where the TCU brainwashing began . . .
Please note that while Harlan looks adorable in the his TCU purple, the SMU jersey on Jackson is clearly the winner here.
Now, SMU won in 2011. It was AMAZING!!!!!! But, after SMU kept losing year after year, things like this started happening . . .
And, then please notice Reid throwing up the TCU Horned Frog symbol while at a SMU Basketball game. Shame! π
Then slowly, the two cute little SMU Mustangs slowly started shedding the blue and red, and moved onto the purple at these big games.
Now, I will say that I do love TCU. We have season tickets, and go to as many games as possible. And, when SMU is not playing TCU, I am all about the Horned Frogs. But, when SMU plays them, Pony Up!
This was from ESPN College Gameday at TCU back in 2017. Please see how I can be loyal to both schools! Ha!
I finally gave up even trying to brainwash my kids back to SMU’s side around the time that TCU held their own in the Top 25.
And, then, the final TCU brainwashing piece of the puzzle feel into place. Reid’s youngest brother took a walk-on Quarterback position on the TCU Football team. My people now bleed purple on the regular. Even I joined in on the purple attire at a game where they weren’t playing SMU. Purple EVERYWHERE! But, this is what happens when Uncle Grant is on the team!
Last year’s SMU/TCU game was about the best football game ever played. Seriously. I wore my SMU gear in a sea full of purple, and took the trash talk sent my way just as well as I gave it!
And, then . . . WE WON!!!!!! It.Was.Amazing.
There were many emotions from all of us that day, but mine was PURE joy!
So, tonight, we won’t be at the SMU/TCU game. We are hoping that it is rescheduled, but no one really knows for sure.
What I do know, is that family trumps school. So, the fact that our sweet Uncle Grant is on the team, things are slowly changing on my end. I see more purple in my future as my precious brother-in-law takes the field.
Please see Jackson’s joy the first time he saw his sweet uncle in the football program! π
Praying that everyone stays healthy and that games actually are able to get played!
As you can see, our favorite TCU football player is getting my outfit together for the next game.
Go SMU! Go TCU! Go College Football!
Hope y’all have the best weekend! And, enjoy the football. If you need me, over the weekend, I will be at either a golf course with Jackson or watching football with the family. Go Cowboys! WOOHOO!
