Power Outage = Summer Adventure
Oh friends. This has been a crazy week so far. A little impromptu summer adventure for our Beucler crew. We turned an odd situation into an opportunity to play tourist in our own town. But, we are now back home, and I am SOOOOOOOOO thrilled!
On Sunday afternoon, a WILD storm moved through Dallas and did some major damage. We were sitting at lunch when it hit, and while the lights flickered on and off and the windows of the restaurant rattled, we didn’t think much about it. Until the drive home. Trees down, debris everywhere, and NO power!
Two things here:
- This storm came out of nowhere. I like to think I am an amateur meteorologist with my stalking of The Weather Channel app and my local weather man’s Facebook page. Texas has little pop up summer storms, but this was insane.
- I hate not having power. Hate is a strong word, but I mean it. Your house gets hot and sticky. You don’t realize how much you rely on electricity until you don’t have it.
We were VERY fortunate that we didn’t lose any trees and that our house was not damaged. We know many people that are dealing with tons of damage, so we are just thankful a power outage was all we are dealing with. Over 300,000 homes and businesses were out of power, and driving through town was an eerie experience!
After hours of no power, a humid and sticky house, and no end in sight, we moved our Beucler crew to the Omni in Downtown Dallas. I took a video of the check in line on my Instagram stories because IT WAS INSANE. It took almost an hour and a half to make it to the counter to check in! People everywhere, kids and dogs running around. A crazy scene.
Let me just say that the Omni was so amazing. They had staff giving out bottles of water, bags of popcorn, and pieces of pizza. They made sure that everyone was comfortable as we all stood in line and traded “war stories” of where we lived, what Oncor was saying, etc.
So, for a couple of days, we had ourselves a little impromptu staycation. Breakfast buffets, a trip to the Dallas World Aquarium, fun exploring trips through Downtown, and lounging around the Omni pool with the rest of Dallas.
Our power came back on late last night, and we are finally back home. The air conditioning is pumping, the laundry is going, and I am just so thankful to have power. Thousands of people still do not have power, so we know how lucky we are.
Thanks to Omni Dallas for their amazing customer service during this time. And, thanks to the Oncor workers who are out there busting their booties to get our great city back up and running.
If you need me, I will be spending my day doing laundry, grocery shopping for everything we lost in the power outage, and flipping on and off light switches to prove I have power! Woohoo! XO
